Afraid of Sharks, or For Them?
Shark Stewards has catalyzed emergency regulations by the California Fish and Game Commission to limit heavy shark fishing gear on California piers and beaches. These regulations are intended to reduce attraction and habituation of dangerous sharks to nearshore waters, and limit bycatch of protected white sharks. While temporary, these regulations do not go far enough and should include banning chum and live bait and mechanical gaffs. We are appealing for these changes with the Fish and Game Commission and make them permanent to protect threatened sharks and increase public safety.

These are shark education, marine conservation and emphasize the health of the entire marine ecosystem including marine protection in the Greater Farallones national Marine Sanctuary. Although we watch whales and seabirds, and seek sharks- these trips are conservation and outdoor marine education and are not explicitly shark watching trips
These are permitted under NOAA but are not cage diving trips, nor do we chum of feed sharks.
Running 15 years, we operate under a permit from the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary’s White Shark Stewardship Program. We have highly trained shark and wildlife experts and are permitted to deploy a decoy. We also use a hydrophone, and a small ROV for underwater recording and we often get to see the great white grin!
